ABSTRACT
The Philippine duck (Anas luzonica) is the country’s only endemic duck. This study aimed to gather information on the population and abundance of A. luzonica at Barangay Ibabang Palsabangon, Pagbilao, Quezon. Four transect areas measuring 100 x 20 meters serve as data collection points were established using the point count method. A total of 1742 individuals were encountered from swim and fly-thrus and the species are considered as common based on a crude ordinal scale of abundance. Among the four transects, transect 1 has the lowest number, which is considered a disturbed area, with a numerical value of density 0.042. The highest number of encountered ducks was in transect 4, which also has the highest density with a numerical value of 0.3865. Morphological variations such as the length and color of various parts of the body of A. luzonica were also described. The male and female have similar appearances and only differ in size. In terms of color, female A. luzonica was lighter than male. Human disturbance influenced the population and abundance of Philippine Ducks. Authorities should strengthen conservation practices for the protection of A. luzonica inhabiting PMSFR.
